My daughter really likes to play with beauty. What do you want to teach your daughter about beauty?īB: I want to teach her to keep it simple. I want to feel like I am still a woman, not just a mother. How has your personal style changed since you became a mother?īB: I’ve always kept my style simple, but now I have two kids, I feel it is more important to feel feminine. What’s your best advice for looking great in front of the camera while in a swimsuit?īB: Mario Testino does the magic for me! I feel pretty confident with such a great photographer I always know he will make me look amazing. Now because we know each other it can be a little awkward when we have to get so close to each other?īB: Of course! Who wouldn’t get jealous of David Gandy?! Also all the women in my partner’s family – his mother and sister – were like ‘you are so lucky to get to go and work with David Gandy!’ Has it ever become awkward working together ?īB: It wasn’t awkward when we first did the campaign together because I didn’t really know him then. The woman could have easily been dressed in only a skimpy bikini, yet most of her chest is covered up by a less than skin tight blouse, yet the male bares all, only wearing petite white trunks.
In addition to this, it is interesting how it is the male who is wearing the least clothing. The idea of the male body being seen as a sexual object again reiterates the fact that he is the recipient of the female gaze as the female consumer may fantasise about the mans flawless body.
This technique could have been used in order to objectify the man in a way that he is no longer a person but a sexual image, in the same way that women were objectified in commercials for more than thirty years. Secondly, although it is made clear that the commercial is advertising for a product aimed at both men and women, the camera mainly focuses on the torso of the male as we are faced with an extreme close up of the males oily, toned body as he clambers on top of the woman in a sexual manner.
